The Center for GIS at Georgia Tech and the Information Technology Outreach Services (ITOS) at University of Georgia collaborate to conduct a "GIS in Teaching & Research" symposium every two years. The primary goal of the initiative is to provide a forum to allow University System of Georgia (USG) institutions to showcase and share their GIS expertise and experience. Faculty, staff, students and researchers from across the University System and experts from peer institutions participate in the symposium.
Presenters at the symposium represent a cross section of discipline from across the university system and the sessions are designed to promote information exchange among the participants and promote GIS in general. The symposium provides an avenue to explore various ways GIS technology is being integrated with academic curriculum and research.
The fourth version of "GIS in Teaching & Research" was held during February 14 & 15, 2008 at Georgia Tech campus. The symposium featured sessions on "GIS in Conservation" and "GIS for Facility Mapping". Several presentations and GIS showcase demonstrations were given during the three day symposium.
